A wedding invitation is doing two jobs at once. It tells a hundred people where to be and when, and it is the first piece of the day any of them get to hold. The second job is why the first one is so often done late: a thing that has to be beautiful gets designed for months, printed once, and posted in a hurry. This is that invitation without the press and the postbox. You pick one of six designs, write your own words into it, and are handed a single link. An order of the day underneath the invitation carries that without crowding the front of it. - **Exactly who is invited.** Naming the people rather than the household is what settles plus ones and children before anybody has to ring and ask. It is the single most common cause of an awkward conversation four weeks before a wedding. - **A date to reply by.** Caterers want numbers weeks ahead of the day. A deadline on the invitation, with the reply form directly under it, is the difference between a head count and a fortnight of chasing people individually. ## One that works. A save the date does the early work, and the invitation itself carries the detail. - **Do digital wedding invitations look cheap?** A photograph of a card sent as an attachment does. A designed invitation that opens on its own page, in its own typeface, on paper with a grain in it, does not.
